Forum with Eastern District

God@Work: Conference cousins in conversation

When relatives get together who haven’t seen each other in many years, they share their stories of their journeys with each other. They share where they have been, what they have been up to, how they have occupied their time. In some ways, the last couple of years of relationship between Eastern District Conference and Franconia Mennonite Conference have felt somewhat like that. Read more….

Introducing West Swamp Mennonite Church

As Eastern District and Franconia Conferences continue to work together, we are taking time to get to know one another more with introductions to our congregations.

West Swamp Mennonite Church began as the “Swamp Charge” in 1717 with German immigrant families meeting in homes. The first log meetinghouse was constructed in 1735and the first building on our current location, 2501 Allentown Road, Quakertown, PA, was built in 1790. It would be replaced in 1819 and 1873. Introducing Rocky Ridge, Bethany, & Ambler

In the early1900’s the area around Rocky Ridge was known as the “woods over the ridge.” Families living in the area were of many nationalities and most had little income. Bethany is an intimate ecumenical gathering in Bridgewater Corners, Vermont. We began as a small group of five families who followed a call to move here from PA in the early 1950’s. Ambler began in a garage in 1952 as an outreach of Franconia Conference. This mission was nearly abandoned when those who came to serve the children of the area found them too unruly. Read more…. Featured blog: Why I am not voting for a president this year (Abnormal Anabaptist)*

If you have been following my blogs on politics and Christianity, you should already know that I take a rather low view of the American civic duty of voting in elections. In fact, I don’t think I’ve made much secret, at least among folks who know me, that I’m not intending on voting for a presidential candidate in this upcoming election. This, of course, has brought some backlash…. How can I not vote and allow this nation to slide away from God’s intended plan? Read more…. us-flag-question-mark-200x200

Webinar: The Naked Anabaptist

The author of The Naked Anabaptist (Herald Press, 2010) will reflect on the context out of which he has written—Britain in a post-Christendom era—and why the Anabaptist tradition is inspiring Christians there. He will tell about the Anabaptist Network (founded in 1991) and explore the significance of the core convictions outlined in the book. He will also examine the imagery of nakedness’ which permeates the book, explaining why he used this and what it signifies.
