Germantown Historic MeetinghousePaint a piece of history!

The historic Germantown Meetinghouse is a powerful symbol of the origins of the Mennonite experience in America and an important touchstone of the Anabaptist faith. Now cared for by the nonprofit Germantown Mennonite Historic Trust, it hosts hundreds of visitors each year. . . .  With a very small staff and a modest budget, most of the upkeep for this historic site is done by volunteers. On June 9-12, GMHT’s Paint a Piece of History! hosted 50 volunteers who worked to spruce up the Meetinghouse and grounds.  Read more. . . .

Ben-WidemanChurch as an extension of family: a call story

I am a child of the Mennonite world – my parents met while doing Voluntary Service in Mississippi and were married soon after. Believe it or not, I was even born on the day of our area Mennonite Central Committee relief sale! My parents recognized the value in bringing me up with the church as an extension of my family system.

The church (no joke: WIDEMAN Mennonite) was where I found my biggest supporters, best friends, and strongest mentors. From an early age I was given the opportunity to participate in the life of the church through handing out bulletins, participating as an usher or greeter, reading scripture, and then transitioning into helping with music and worship leading.  Read more. . . .

Spring Training 2012Did you miss Spring Training 2012?

Pastors:  Did you attend the Spring Training day on April 21?  If not, just a reminder that you are asked to take time to review the recordings from the day which are now posted on the Franconia Conference website.  Please be in touch with your LEADership Minister, your congregational contact person, or Noah Kolb if you have questions about the “Formation Expectations and Requirements for Credentialed Leaders,” as this document has implications for the way your LEADership minister will work with you in the coming year(s).  Download documents and watch the video or listen to the podcast

  • (FB) Perkiomenville Mennonite Church The group arrived safely to Honduras a short while ago. Keep praying for them as they show love and serve the people that they met.
  • (photo) Donated medicines are being packed in suitcases to be used in the brigades in the poor villages of Honduras through MAMA Project.  These medicines could be a life-saver for many people!

Alex BouwmanMennonite community … and community that Mennonites (To Mennonite Blog #7)*

It is not easy separating the noun “Mennonite” and the verb “to Mennonite.” I think it is because the terms are not mutually exclusive. Those of us who identify as Mennonite, ethnically or culturally, and practice a Mennonite faith are likely already Mennoniting. Here are a few examples that come to mind that demonstrate the close relationship between our beliefs (as Mennonites, the noun) and our practices (as we Mennonite, the verb)…. Read more
