Pastors walk through transformation together

The Hidden Agenda Behind the Worm Project

by Claude Good, Souderton

Recently I had a visit from a friend. Our conversation turned to the pain of the world. Much to my surprise he broke out weeping; his weeping was caused by his deep concern for the people still living in the pain of darkness. He asked for a tissue. The next day I found the crunched up tissue and was about to chuck it in the garbage. But I suddenly thought, "I can’t throw this away because it holds tears that I believe are sacred to God." Featured Blog: Lent and Fasting

by Brandon Bergey, Following in Faith*

Each Lent, I wonder what I should give up or take on.  I rarely feel right with God for more than a couple days in a row and so Lent often seems a time to reach out to God more fervently.  This year, I was struck by  a passage in Isaiah 58 that calls into question our individual-focused routines of giving up chocolate, coffee, etc.  I suspect those small sacrifices are very good. Our heart needs them.  Yet, there is more to look toward. Read more….

Notes to Pastors

Pheonix 2013 Announcements

At the Phoenix convention this summer, one of the many significant learning tracks will be one focusing on leadership development for high school students.   This learning track is modeled from the Values Based Leadership Program (VBLP.   Students who are nominated by their pastor or sponsor, will be taught principles of excellent leadership through an Anabaptist faith lens.   Please send the name of the person(s) you have talked to, the name of your congregation as well as an email contact for them to:  BethH@MennoniteUSA.org.

Denominational Ministry would like to hear from you! Actually we would like to see and hear from you! But for not more than 59 seconds!! We invite you to find someone or a group from your church to make a YouTube video to show at convention Phoenix 2013! Organizers of the Call Wall would like to show short YouTube videos from youth or small groups and congregations answering these two questions:

  • What qualities do you believe are important for a pastor to have?
  • What are the essential elements of a “calling congregation?”

Capture the video in the church or anywhere that adds to your creative process.   Finished videos can be sent to Chris Rahe at ChrisR@MennoniteUSA.org. What can you say in 59 seconds? My guess is… plenty!  Go to: http://mennoniteusa.org/2012/11/20/cultivating-call-in-59-seconds/ if you want to learn more about this opportunity
