Won’t you be my neighbor?

by Brooke Natalie Blough, West Philadelphia Mennonite Fellowship

As a white woman who somewhat recently moved into an area that is considered to be “gentrifying,” I try to be acutely aware of my impact on my community. Dannette Lambert’s article on “how not to be a gentrifier” was exactly what I needed. I absolutely love my neighborhood and its diversity, so a practical guide on being a positive force in your community for everyone gave me so much to think about and put in action. Read more….

Stand with Philadelphia immigrants–a note from Samantha Lioi, Peace & Justice Minister

Friends and colleagues,

I’m writing with an opportunity to stand beside our immigrant neighbors who face deportation and separation from their families on a daily basis.

The New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia is a faith-based organization co-sponsoring a meeting with City Council in which clergy from many faith traditions stand united in asking that the City of Philadelphia freeze cooperation between the police department and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – to reduce or stop deportations that fragment families and communities.

I know it’s pretty late notice–it’s next Monday, March 3 at 1pm. However if you’re interested in carpooling, I’m planning to go, and I hope to be able to talk with Pastor Aldo of Philadelphia Praise Center afterward –and perhaps other of our Mennonite pastors in the city.

Hope to see some of you Monday!
