NVNNL Voter ID clinics

Dignity & Hope: Moving Toward Equal Access in Norristown

It started with a simple Facebook exchange. Donna Windle noticed a friend’s comment reacting to controversy over recent laws requiring the presentation of a government-issued ID to vote. Her friend said she would get IDs for people quickly, to show how easy it was. Windle—a social worker—knew from wading through hours and days of red tape that it was much more involved than her friend might think. Read more….

A Franconia Conference Summer

We asked for stories from summer activities from around the Conference and got this jewel from Kim Moyer, Blooming Glen congregation:

The theme for our Summer Bible School was “Be Bold! God is with You!” The children learned through songs, dramas, stories, crafts, and games, that God is with them, even when they are scared. Read more….

Have you seen God @ Work?

Next week, we will hear from Sandy Landes, prayer coordinator for Franconia Conference, about her experiences of seeing God @ Work recently. How have YOU seen God at work in your congregation, community, and conference? Share your story in a sentence or two by clicking here.

And don’t forget, our Conference Assembly with Eastern District Conference will be November 10 at Penn View Christian School in Souderton, Pa. Registration is now open for workshops, meals, and childcare. Register now.

Featured Blog: The Questions of a Child
(Stories from the Red Tent)*

I am always surprised by how many questions my kids have for me.  Sometimes they are questions about how things work.  “Mom, how does money come out of that plastic card?”  or “ How do bones heal after they are broken?” Sometimes they want to know what’s next—to frame the day, and plan things out.  “What’s for dinner?”  What’s happening this weekend?” Sometimes they are questions of permission–Mom, can I buy a pocketknife?”  or “Can I have a sleepover with my friends?”   Sometimes, they are asking questions to push the boundaries—“Why can’t we watch TV on school nights?”  “Do I have to practice my instrument?” Read more….

Prayer Corner

Occasionally there are times in the life of a congregation when the prayer support of the wider church is appreciated, such as an outreach opportunity, discernment about decisions, an illness or family emergency for a member of the pastoral team, and so forth. Pastors and congregational leaders are invited to e-mail such prayer requests for the weekly Intersectings newsletter by Wednesday morning for publication in that week’s e-mail. And, as always, prayer requests can be submitted to the prayer team by sending them to Sandy Landes, prayer coordinator. Praying for each other is one of the  many ways God is at work in the body of Christ here in Franconia Conference!

  • Please be in prayer for the pastoral team of Souderton (Pa.) congregation as Mary Benner grieves the death of her mother and Jim Laverty and his family walk with his teenaged daughter Emilee through cancer treatments.

You are invited to a Youth Ministry Seminar

Several youth pastors from Franconia and Eastern District Conferences are planning to attend the Youth Ministry in Small Churches seminar as a group and are inviting other youth workers/sponsors to join them and receive the group rate (a $10 discount). To join the group, contact Conference Youth Minister, John Stoltzfus.

Did you know that the average-size church in America is only 76 people? And the average-size youth group is 8 students? Bigger is not always better in youth ministry! The day-long seminar, Youth Ministry in Small Churches, will provide theological insight and practical tips for overcoming the challenges of youth ministry in a smaller church (defined as 150 or less in weekly worship). In fact, we’ll discuss ways to maximize the benefits of a more intimate-size group. Topics will include reaching critical mass, volunteer/parent development, multi-generational ministry and "desperate-for-details" organization… all sized for use in smaller youth ministry settings.
