An unorthodox choice for a pastor

CBS News recently shared the story of Peace Fellowship’s new pastor, Peter Chin, a 33-year-old Korean-American pastor in a predominantly African-American neighborhood in Washington, D.C. Peace Fellowship is a Partner in Mission with Franconia Conference.

Beauty for Brokenness: Women’s Ministry

The Women’s Committee of Eastern District & Franconia Conferences is planning a morning apart for women in June with a focus on wholeness and healing. In March of last year, 130 women attended the Sister Care Seminar held by Mennonite Women USA at Souderton Mennonite Church. Read more….

When I was growing up, some of my favorite children’s stories came from a collection called The Bedtime Story Books by Thornton W. Burgess. They featured an eclectic collection of woodland characters whose exploits were witnessed by Old Mother West Wind and her Merry Little Breezes. By the time he retired, Burgess had written more than 170 books and 15,000 stories for a daily newspaper column. Read more….

Notes to Pastors

Matthew Kolb, retired pastor of Vincent Mennonite Church, died on April 26, 2013. He and his wife Kathryn lived on the home dairy farm in Royersford, Pa., where they raised their five children. Matthew was 90 years old. He had served as pastor of Vincent Mennonite Church for more than 40 years. He was ordained by lot in 1946 at the age of 23.

There is a viewing Monday evening, May 6, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Vincent. The funeral service is Tuesday, May 7 at 10:00am, also at Vincent. There is a viewing the hour before the service.
