Liberty Thrift & Home Furnishings: Celebrating “10 Years of Blessings and Treasures”

Brian Jones, Thrift Operations Directorbrianj@libertyministries.us3.jpgIn the spring of ’98, an offer to take over a 1200 square foot store in the borough of Schwenksville led to months of planning accompanied by a mixture of visionary zeal, excitement and anxiety by the Liberty Ministries Board of Directors. Thankfully, in August 1998 the store opened. Its primary goal was to establish an additional source of revenue to support the ministry. In addition, it was hoped the store would serve as an outlet for persons who wished to donate quality, reusable items as well as to provide a resource for persons who wish to purchase quality used clothing and items at reasonable prices. As a result of abundant growth, within a few years there was a search to find a larger store with better parking.Today with the help of many dedicated staff, volunteers, businesses and churches, Liberty Thrift & Home Furnishings is celebrating ten years of fulfilling and expanding it’s mission. Liberty Ministries now owns and operates five stores in addition to a warehouse. Treasures await every shopper and while “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” donated items must be in sale-able condition. As the Thrift Operations Director, I like to think that there is something for everyone in the entire family at Liberty Thrift & Home Furnishings. These things range from toys to books, home decor items to seasonable merchandise, clothing for every season and furniture for every room, etc. There may even be that little thing that you have been looking for all over, perhaps for years, at Liberty Thrift. From the beginning, Liberty Thrift has been blessed with generous donations of “gently used” and sometimes new items. We are always grateful for all of our loyal donor’s gifts and donations. Tasks are endless in a thrift store and many hands are needed. I praise God for the many volunteers, employees and donors who believe in the mission of Liberty Ministries and have given so much to help our thrift stores be successful.Liberty Ministries is a prison ministry, offering a message of hope and regeneration to people in prison as well as a residential program for men on parole or probation, helping them rebuild their lives and become the people God destines them to be. Though the overhead of the stores is high, they are able to help fund the infrastructure of the ministry. In addition they provide immediate employment to the residents in a Christ-centered environment, with training and fostering of a work ethic to carry over to later permanent employment. Qualified prisoners on “work release” are also considered for employment. In addition, Juvenile and Adult Probation call on the stores as an outlet to help men and women “give back” through community service. As we celebrate “10 Years of Blessings and Treasures” in the stores, we also celebrate Liberty Ministries. In celebration of our anniversary, every customer who spends $10.00 or more will have the opportunity to enter a daily drawing for a $10.00 Gift Certificate throughout the month of August. We welcome your presence at all the stores and look forward to meeting you and having you share in the celebration of our 10th Anniversary.About the authorBrian Jones and his mother, June Jones, have together been growing and developing the thrift stores over the past five years. Brian completed his internship with Liberty Thrift & Home Furnishings in 2003, through Philadelphia Biblical University, and continued working along side June, who has been with Liberty Thrift since its beginning. “I can honestly say that Mom has taught me everything I know about thrift stores and I would not be here today without her,” comments Brian. “It has been difficult at times to visualize the stores in the same way, but we both respect each other and have learned to work within our strengths and abilities and give God all honor and glory.” Together they have seen God guide and direct every step along this journey and experienced many miracles. Proverbs 16:9 states, “a man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps.” Brian and June believe that in order to make their plans successful, everything must be committed to the Lord who has made everything for His own purposes. photo providedby Liberty Ministries
